Arin Ilejay: I'm a Kid from Nowhere who used to be in a Hardcore band"

From Rock Sound:

In the new issue of Rock Sound we talk to drummer Arin Ilejay about his place in the eye of Avenged Sevenfold's hurricane. Being the new guy in one of the world's biggest bands can't be easy, but from what we found out the sticksmen who made his name in Confide is living the dream!

How is life in Avenged Sevenfold treating you thus far
“Man, it’s been an incredible rush. I’m a kid from nowhere who used to be in a hardcore band, and last week I found myself playing at Rock In Rio to 145,000 people. I’ve never experienced anything like this before; the guys have let me into this huge, crazy world, and I want to make everyone proud.”

What have been the biggest challenges?
“I’d toured before this, but it’s been a completely different experience – instead of sleeping in a van I’m now sleeping in a massive bus! I’ve actually gotten into a bit of trouble, because I’m used to a completely different kind of touring lifestyle. There have been times when I’ve tried to help the crew set everything up, and they’re like, ’What the fuck are you doing out here?!’ I’m not used to being ‘the talent’ – chilling backstage before a show – and have found that treatment really difficult. I have no idea what to do with myself!

I’ve also found the business mindset of the band challenging.. I’ve always been flying by the seat of my pants, always living in the moment. Suddenly I’ve got to start strategising with finances and the music business... I have big responsibilities. I want to still be able to be a kid and have fun, to enjoy the ride.”
