Kier Kemp of Fearless Vampire Killers chooses M.Shadows as his Hero Of Rock

Kier Kemp of Fearless Vampire Killers chose M.Shadows as his Hero Of Rock in the new issue of Kerrang. Below his explanation:

“M. Shadows is one of the greatest frontmen of our age, and I can’t help but look up to him. There are only a few frontmen with such great stage presence, and the sort of voice that you hear and know it’s them. I wish I could live up to those levels! Performing as a frontman is more about your internal confidence, and if you’re trying to emulate something, you have to feel like you’re the fucking tits! And I certainly try to steal a bit of that. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Avenged Sevenfold, but if I could meet M. Shadows, I’d probably say, ‘Well done for not being afraid – especially for a metal band – to do something ambitious.’ The metal scene is very close-minded, and there are rules, and you have to do things a certain way or you’re ‘selling out’, and I’m glad that Avenged Sevenfold and M. are brave enough to do what they want. They got a load of shit when they went from [2003's] Waking The Fallen to [2005's] City Of Evil, but they planned to progress and I think that it’s cool that they allowed themselves to, where as some bands are too scared, and if will stay the same their entire career. That’s what makes a hero, to me. Music is such an amazing thing to explore, and it should always simply be about the creativity. M. Shadows lets the music evolve with the band, and that’s what makes it interesting. We try to keep some of that spirit alive, and it’s inspiring that Avenged Sevenfold have done a similar thing.”
